My name is Shari Slebodnik, MS LLP.
I am the Director of Gender Services and a licensed clinical psychotherapist at Wentworth & Associates, P.C., a forerunner in providing support, assistance, and psychotherapy services to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender individuals, supporters, allies, and families.
I am also a support group creator/facilitator, and an advocate, educator and corporate trainer on the issues facing Transgender people. I do so, not only via psychotherapeutic methods, but through public presentations, CDs, books, and videos. My entire professional research, career, and education have all been focused on the Transgender community. My personal life experience, as well, has been very effected by issues and topics related to the LGBT community since early childhood, and continues through present day (my child is pictured above).
I am also qualified to focus attention on the Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual community, educating groups to acknowledge, affirm, and integrate gender identity, as well as sexual orientation into our family, faith, and work communities. My experience highlights that anyone can be an ally, advocate, or supporter of Transgender or LGB people, and that the cultivation of shared respect requires an open mind, unbiased information, and a personal face on the issue.
My work as The Advocate is commonly in partnership with chiefly heterosexual / biologically-gendered audiences in religious, corporate, government, and school environments, aiding these groups to better understand, be aware of and be sensitive to, the distinctive challenges and opportunities faced by Transgender people. The goal is to change the views, level of understanding, and sensitivity of the groups, empowering them to provide a more equal, compassionate, dignified, and respectful treatment toward others.
I hope that I have provided you with enough information here, so that you can begin to address these issues with your coworkers, staff, family, and friends.
